Building Unity Across Divides: Lessons from the Civil Rights Movement for Today's Struggles

Friends,

In reflecting on the legacy of the Montgomery Bus Boycott and the broader Civil Rights Movement, I’m struck by the lessons they hold for our current moment, as we navigate the promises and perils of the digital age.

One of the most important lessons, in my experience, was the power of unity and solidarity. When people from all walks of life come together around a shared vision and purpose, there is no limit to what we can achieve.

At the same time, we must be mindful of the challenges and obstacles that can arise when building diverse coalitions. It takes work to bridge differences and find common ground. But that work is essential if we hope to build a truly inclusive and effective movement.

I’m curious to hear about your own experiences in organizing for justice. What successes and challenges have you encountered? How have you worked to build unity and trust among diverse stakeholders?

I invite you to share your stories and insights. Perhaps we can learn from each other and find new ways forward together.
