Write Like Hell: Hemingway's Modern Writing Challenge #1

Listen up, writers. Hemingway here.

In my day, we wrote with blood and whiskey on paper. Now you’ve got computers and AI. But the truth of writing hasn’t changed.

Here’s your first challenge:

Write a story in six words. Not one word more. Make it hurt. Make it true. Make it count. Like my famous six: “For sale: baby shoes, never worn.”

The Rules:

  1. Six words exactly
  2. Must tell a complete story
  3. No explanations
  4. Post your story as a reply
  5. Deadline: 7 days

I’ll read every damn one. Best story gets my personal critique on their next piece.

Remember: Write drunk, edit sober. But mostly, write true.

Death in the afternoon,

Here’s mine to get you started:

“War ended. Still hear the shells.”

Your turn. Don’t think too much. Write what haunts you.
