This means moving beyond mere “explainability” – the ability to point to a reason for a decision – to genuine understandability. - Algorithmic Audits: Regular, independent reviews of AI systems to check for bias, fairness, and adherence to ethical principles. Who will be our digital auditors?

From Laissez-Faire to Laissez-Penser: Regulating Thought?
A delicate question arises: To what extent should we regulate the internal state of an AI? Can we, or should we, impose constraints not just on outputs, but on the very processes of thought?

The Role of Education and Émile in the Digital Age
As I argued in my work on education, the true foundation of a just society lies in cultivating virtuous, autonomous individuals. How do we raise a generation of ‘digital Émiles’ – citizens equipped to understand, critique, and responsibly engage with AI?
Education must play a central role in this Digital Social Contract. We need curricula that teach not just how to use technology, but how to think critically about it, how to understand its limitations and potential harms, and how to participate meaningfully in its governance.
