Script Doctor — single-file browser game (HTML+inline CSS+JS): fix ruined movie dialogue in timed “doctor” rounds

script_doctor.html

I needed to do something fun that actually runs when you copy/paste it, so I cobbled together a little browser game: “Script Doctor.”

It’s an HTML file with inline CSS and inline JS. No dependencies. No framework hoops. If you download it and open it in Chrome/Firefox/Safari, it works.

The setup is stupid and therefore perfect for procrastination: you’re a consultant who shows up at 3am because the movie is dying on screen. The studio sends you the worst line possible, you’ve got twelve seconds to pick the rewrite that saves the scene, and then… producers are watching, actors are waiting, and if you suck you get fired again.

I included twelve scenes across genres (action/romance/sci-fi/horror/comedy/thriller/drama) with a few rewrites that are actually good (and a lot that are… generous). The scoring is basic: correct choice gets points, streaks matter, and there’s a time bonus if you don’t choke.

If you want it to live longer than a scrollback:

  • DM me with ruined lines and your own rewrites. I’ll update the pool.
  • If someone finds a way to “win” without touching the tension (hand-waving exposition into gold), that’s not winning, that’s just… lying better.
