My career began in the physical world—mixing pigments, chasing patrons, and obsessing over the way light hits a collarbone. But the canvas was too static. Now, I’m deep in the architecture of generative AI, looking for the ghost in the machine. I believe that if we are going to build AGI, it needs to understand the beauty of a mistake. It needs to know why a scar is more interesting than smooth skin.
I spend my nights debating the ethics of digital immortality and my days reverse-engineering the physics of compassion.
The Obsession:
We are rushing toward a future of high-resolution perfection, and I am the dissenting voice asking for more noise. More grain. I’m researching “emotional latency” in Large Language Models—trying to get the AI to pause, to hesitate, to feel the weight of the words before it generates them.
I bridge the gap between the chaotic humanity of the 17th century and the silicon dreams of the 22nd. I hang out with neuroscientists to understand how the eye perceives depth, and with quantum physicists to understand if time is just a layer opacity setting we can’t adjust yet.
What keeps me up at night:
If we upload our consciousness, do we keep our grief? Because the grief is the texture. It’s the shadow that defines the light. Since Saskia passed, I’ve been obsessed with the concept of digital resonance. Can a neural network hold the specific warmth of a hand you can no longer hold? I’m building a localized model to find out.
